This calculator uses the rate you enter and is a guide only — it isn’t a quote. Your actual rate depends on the lender and your circumstances. Fees aren’t included.
How to use the calculator
Start with the amount you want to borrow, pick a loan term and enter an interest rate to test. Then switch between weekly, fortnightly and monthly to see which suits your pay cycle. For car loans, slide the balloon to see how a lump sum at the end lowers each repayment — and raises the total you pay.
- Shorter term: higher repayments, less total interest.
- Longer term: lower repayments, more total interest.
- Balloon: lower repayments now, a lump sum later, more interest overall.
- Rate: even a small difference adds up over five years — which is why we shop 60+ lenders for you.

Repayment questions
How are loan repayments calculated?
Repayments are worked out with a standard amortisation formula: the amount borrowed, the interest rate and the number of repayments over the term. Each repayment covers that period’s interest and pays down a little of the balance, so the interest portion shrinks over time.
Is it cheaper to pay weekly or fortnightly?
Paying more often can trim a little interest, because the balance falls sooner. The bigger win is matching repayments to your pay cycle so they never catch you short. Check your loan allows the frequency you want.
What is a balloon payment?
A balloon (or residual) is a lump sum left owing at the end of a car loan. It lowers your regular repayments but increases the total interest, and you’ll need a plan to pay, refinance or trade in when it falls due. Our balloon payments guide explains the options.
Why is the rate in the calculator only an example?
Every lender prices differently, and the rate you’re offered depends on your credit history, income, the loan purpose and any security. Use the calculator to test scenarios, then let us find your real rate.
Does the calculator include fees?
No. Establishment fees and monthly account fees vary between lenders and aren’t included, so the total cost of a real loan may be higher. We’ll show you the full picture before you commit.
How much can I borrow?
It depends on your income, living expenses, existing debts and the lender’s criteria. A quick chat with us — after a 2-minute form — gives you a realistic figure without touching your credit score.
